Is UMSAz a for profit or non-profit institution?

The University of Medical Sciences Arizona is a non-profit institution whose key focus is to provide a charitable benefit to the community.  On the other hand, a for-profit institution’s primary goal is to make a profit. The profit made by a business after paying its expenses and debts can be distributed to investor.

A non-profit institution is mainly funded through private endowments or grants. It’s key focus is to provide a charitable benefit to the community. Rather than take profits and distribute them to company stakeholders, any profits earned by the organization are reinvested in the nonprofit and used to further the institutions mission for the benefit of the community it serves.

How are UMSAz courses Delivered?

UMSAz offers programs on-line asynchronously to accommodate the working professional. Faculty/student synchronous meetings may be scheduled and student/student to increase interactive collaboration.

Is UMSAz accredited?

No. UMSAz is currently going through the accreditation process. Please refer to our Accreditation Statement in the About US section.

Will I have to travel to Hawaii to complete the lab requirements?

Travel to Hawaii is required for some of the courses that have on campus lab intensives.  Lab intensives are scheduled for 2 days ONLY one time a semester.  The labs are generally scheduled near the end of the semester. 

Where do I stay if I have to travel to campus in Hawaii?

The university will provide a list of available housing options for students per student request.  A student may request assistance to find housing by requesting it through the HOUSING REQUEST form.

How long will it take to complete the Doctor of Nursing program?

A program’s completion requirements differ according to the program’s curriculum.  Based upon taking 2 courses a semester the:

  1. Doctor of Nursing Science takes 3 years
  2. Doctor of Nursing Science with Academic Emphasis takes 4 years

However, a student can take 1 course a semester if that is their preference.  There are no required number of courses a student must take each semester. 

How long will it take to complete the Doctor of Science in Movement Sciences?

A program’s completion requirements differ according to the program’s curriculum.  Based upon taking 2 courses a semester the Doctor of Science in Movement Sciences takes 4 years (3 years + 1 year for dissertation).  However, a student can take 1 course a semester if that is their preference.  There are no required number of courses a student must take each semester. 

How long will it take to complete the PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences program?

A program’s completion requirements differ according to the program’s curriculum.  Based upon taking 2 courses a semester the PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences takes 4 years (3 years + 1 year for dissertation).  However, a student can take 1 course a semester if that is their preference.  There are no required number of courses a student must take each semester. 

How long will it take to complete the Transitional Occupational Therapy Doctorate?

A program’s completion requirements differ according to the program’s curriculum.  Based upon taking 2 courses a semester the:

  1. Transitional Occupational Therapy Doctorate takes 1 year and 1 semester
  2. Transitional Occupational Therapy Doctorate with Academic Emphasis takes 1 year and 2 semesters

However, a student can take 1 course a semester if that is their preference.  There are no required number of courses a student must take each semester. 

How long will it take to complete the Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy program?

A program’s completion requirements differ according to the program’s curriculum.  Based upon taking 2 courses a semester the:

  1. Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy takes 1 year and 1 semester
  2. Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy with Academic Emphasis takes 1 year and 2 semesters
  3. Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy with Pediatric Emphasis takes 2 years
  4. Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy with Orthopedic Emphasis takes 2 years
  5. Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy with Neuromuscular Emphasis takes 2 years

However, a student can take 1 course a semester if that is their preference.  There are no required number of courses a student must take each semester.
